He implores businesses to report incidents to law enforcement authorities and support prosecutions. “There is a much more sophisticated level of cybercrime based in the U.K. now … which we can only tackle if we know it’s there,” he says.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Gould discusses:

  • The cyberattacks currently targeting the U.K.;
  • The undiscovered incidents organizations may identify when offices reopen;
  • How companies can help investigators respond to cybercrime.

Gould, temporary detective chief superintendent, is the national cybercrime program lead for the U.K’.s National Police Chiefs’ Council, a coordination body for law enforcement. He’s responsible for developing the police response to cybercrime at the national, regional and local level. Previously, he was deputy head of FALCON, or Fraud & Linked Crime Online, the London Metropolitan Police’s response to cybercrime and fraud.
