With the attacks against Colonial Pipeline and other organizations continuing to make news, ransomware remains one of the most-discussed problems in cybersecurity. Megan Stifel, the executive director of the Americas for the Global Cyber Alliance, has ideas about how private firms and government agencies can fight back against the criminal groups who wield crypto-locking malware.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group as part of its RSA Conference 2021 coverage, Stifel discusses:

  • The current state of ransomware;
  • How government agencies are responding;

Stifel, executive director for the Americas at the Global Cyber Alliance, previously served as cybersecurity policy director at Public Knowledge. Stifel is a senior fellow in the Atlantic Council's Cyber Statecraft Initiative and a visiting fellow at George Mason University's National Security Institute. She previously served as a director for international cyber policy at the National Security Council and, before that, in the U.S. Department of Justice as director for cyber policy in the National Security Division and as counsel in the Criminal Division’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section.
