Too many businesses are worried about how security might adversely affect the user experience, even among their own workforce, says Bert Rankin, chief marketing officer of ThreatMetrix.

Single-sign-on practices, which are convenient and offer access to a variety of devices and servers, are exposing companies to risks they've not yet considered, Rankin says. And the user experience does not have to be adversely affected just because security is enhanced; organizations just have not gone about enhancing authentication in the right ways, he says.

During an interview at the RSA Conference 2014, Rankin discusses:

  • Why out-of-band authentication is failing, and
  • How organizations can do more to ensure they are filling security and authentication gaps.

Before joining ThreatMetrix, Rankin served as president and CEO of Shopcreator Services Ltd., a provider of SaaS-based e-commerce solutions. He also was responsible for leading teams that revamped product lines and targeted go-to-market strategies.
