CyberEdBoard Profiles in Leadership: David Anderson
Woodruff Sawyer's David Anderson on Cyber Insurance, Client Relationships and TrustDavid Anderson's career began working in branches of several large banks. He was trained to provide excellent client service, and eventually, one of those clients happened to be the CEO of a leading commercial insurance broker. Soon thereafter, Anderson accepted a job at the firm in management liability, and over the years, that path led him to the rapidly changing world of cyber insurance.

Anderson, now vice president of cyber liability at commercial insurance broker Woodruff Sawyer, built a practice rooted in transparency, trust and client education.
Like banking products, cyber insurance is an important part of managing risk for today's enterprises, and "clients are really putting a lot of faith in you, in your product, in the quality of the craftsmanship," he said. Building relationships in the business requires trust and clear communications.
"Cyber insurance policies don't cover everything ... it is really important that we proactively speak to our clients and help them understand where the four walls of coverage are and where they’re not," he said.
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, conducted as part of CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profiles in Leadership series, Anderson also discussed:
- The tips for building trust and strong client relationships;
- The challenges of building a cyber insurance practice from scratch, including the complexities of product development and client education;
- His advice on fostering transparency, integrity and a reputation of trustworthiness in a rapidly evolving industry.
Anderson focuses on complex cyber, privacy, technology and professional liability issues and is an advocate for his clients. He has extensive experience in risk assessment, risk management and pre-breach network security risk discovery, as well as hands-on post-incident client support and claims advocacy. He is a CyberEdBoard member.
